Megha Nawhal

I am a first year graduate student in School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University co-advised by Prof. Greg Mori and Dr. Parmit Chilana. My research interests include computer vision, machine learning and human-computer interaction.

Previously, I was working as a Research Scientist with Cognitive Industry Solutions team at IBM Research, Bangalore. My project focused on designing cognitive environments to transform the in-store jewelry shopping experience. I also worked on joint multi-modal representation learning using Correlational Neural Networks leveraging text and visual information of e-commerce catalog images in order to improve accuracy of search results from the catalog in an unsupervised setting.

Earlier, I graduated from IIT Kanpur with BTech-MTech (Dual Degree) in Electrical Engineering in 2015. My Master's specialization is in Image Processing. I completed my Master's thesis under the supervision of Prof. K S Venkatesh on developing algorithms to improve scene capture in unfavorable lighting conditions. I have also spent time at Sony Corporation, Japan as an intern in Summer 2013.
