Megha Nawhal

I am a first year graduate student in School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University advised by Prof. Greg Mori and Prof. Parmit Chilana. My research interests include computer vision, machine learning and human-computer interaction.

Previously, I was working as a Research Scientist with Cognitive Indsutry Solutions team at IBM Research, Bangalore. working on applications of machine learning techniques in the domain of building operations. My work was aimed at designing cognitive environments to transforming the in-store jewelry shopping experience. I also worked on joint multi-modal representation learning using Correlational Neural Networks using text and visual information of e-commerce catalog images in order to provide search results from e-commerce catalog without tagging.

Earlier, I graduated from IIT Kanpur with BTech-MTech (Dual Degree) in Electrical Engineering in 2015 with Master's specialization in Image Processing. I did my Master's thesis with Prof. K S Venkatesh on developing algorithms to improve scene capture in unfavorable lighting conditions. I have also spent time at Sony Corporation in Japan as an intern in 2013 working on algorithms for flashband detection in videos.
