Funding Opportunity: International call on Metagenomics in the marine environment--launched, Dec 13, 2016

The Office of Research Services has received the following information which we are forwarding to our e-mail list members:

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to inform you of the launch of an international research call on metagenomics:
http://www.marinebiotech.eu/third-transnational-call. This call is a collaboration with the EU ERA-NET of Marine Biotechnology (http://www.marinebiotech.eu/, see also the Genome BC website<http://www.genomebc.ca/research-programs/opportunities/current-and-upcoming/third-era-marinebiotech-era-mbt-transnational-call-marine-metagenomics/>)

The call is focused on metagenomics in marine environments -and seeks to stimulate development of new bioinformatic tools and approaches for identification novel compounds/functional units with microbial ecosystems.

Researchers with strong bioinformatics or marine biology/genomics expertise (areas of BC strength) will make good partners for this call.

Genome BC is a partner in the call and can support BC researchers (up to ~$300K or 20% of the project budget) participating in EU-led proposals.  Funding from partner countries (there must be at least two others) constitutes co-funding.

Projects must include partners from three countries (eg. Canada and two other countries participating in the call: Belgium, Germany, Norway, Romania, Slovenia, Spain).   Projects should be developed collaboratively to be competitive.

The best way to explore partnerships and opportunities for your lab is to register on the partnering platform -which essentially serves as a dating service for researchers looking to form consortia.  https://www.submission-marinebiotech.eu/partner-search

The call was formally launched on December 13, 2016 and proposals will be due on March 7, 2017 (15h00 CET).  Genome BC guidelines<http://www.genomebc.ca/files/2014/8165/1071/ERA-MBT_Program_Guidelines_FINAL_Dec_13.pdf> for BC researchers participating in the call can be found on our website and we encourage all interested investigators to contact us as soon as possible so we can provide assistance with proposal development.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Rachael
