Concurrent calls for joint research projects with international granting agencies (i.e., NSC, Taiwan) are part of NSERC’s international strategy to increase scientific collaboration between Canada and other countries. Where priorities and programs align, NSERC may sign Memoranda of Understanding to establish mechanisms for joint funding of collaborative research and innovation projects conducted by teams from both countries. Such activities will strengthen the collaboration between the countries’ research and innovation communities to achieve world-class scientific and technical results, leading toward new innovative technologies.
The goal of NSERC's Global Partnership Programs (GPP) in conjunction with the National Priority S&T is to promote international collaboration related to the National Science and Technology Programs, as follows.
The Priority Areas for 2010
Canadian researchers apply to NSERC's Strategic Project Grants program and must meet all the normal program requirements. For further information see the web site listed above. For more information, contact SPG_international@nserc-crsng.gc.ca.
The international agency (i.e., NSC, Taiwan) will fund its scientists, and NSERC will fund Canadian researchers, each according to its own regulations and practices.
NSERC has not reserved funds for applications related to international Concurrent Calls. However, funding is available on a competitive basis within the regular budget of the Strategic Project Grants program. The number of joint projects selected for funding and the total amount awarded will strongly depend on the number and quality of projects submitted. The agencies expect balanced scientific contributions and cooperation in joint projects.
The NSC, Taiwan will not reserve funds for proposals submitted under NSC, Taiwan-NSERC concurrent calls. However, funding is available on a competitive basis within the budget of the National S&T Programs and through the coordination of Department of International Cooperation and Program Offices of National S&T Programs.
For more information, refer to the NSC, Taiwan detailed instructions or contact Jennifer Hu at jenhu@nsc.gov.tw

Research Grant Facilitators are available to assist SFU researchers to obtain research funding. These individuals have extensive knowledge concerning funding sources and successful grant writing skills. See http://www.sfu.ca/vpresearch/facilitation.html for their names and contact numbers. NOTE: Applicants are strongly advised to contact a Grants Facilitator early in the application process.
For information about potential industry partners, please contact SFU's Technology Managers in the University/Industry Liaison Office

The Major Projects Office (MPO) http://www.sfu.ca/ors/major+project.html works in close cooperation with the Faculties, including the Deans, Grants Facilitators and faculty members to promote, encourage and support the development of proposals (and budgets) for submission to major grant competitions at the provincial, national and international levels. These activities include (but are not limited to) assistance with facilitating the establishment of collaborative teams and multidisciplinary teams including collaborators at other institutions and in the private sector. Within SFU, the MPO works with Facilities Management for those major proposals which have important space implications for the university (major renovations and/or construction of new space).
