Proposed Changes to the CIHR

Today, CIHR released the discussion paper regarding the new program structure for the open suite of programs, and the proposed changes to the peer review process.  As you will see from the enclosed document, major changes in every aspect of the application process are proposed. CIHR has had discussions with various focus groups before, and they have agreed to come to SFU. We will arrange an open forum with Jane Aubain (VP Research CIHR), on March 14, at 3 pm, to discuss the proposed changes.

In the meantime, CIHR is soliciting comments through their website, which should be submitted before March 12.

It is very important that the CIHR hears from all affected researchers, from the basic biomedical sciences to the social and population health sciences. I encourage you to read the document and participate in the discussions.

We will organize an internal discussion meeting prior to the CIHR visit, and will get back to you once we have finalized the dates and venue.
