ABOUT CIFAR

CIFAR believes that important advances in knowledge come from collaboration among some of the world’s preeminent researchers.

Building on 35 years as a convenor of global research networks, CIFAR challenges the international research community to identify questions of importance to the world that require an interdisciplinary lens to advance understanding and promote positive change.

CIFAR’s collaborative approach and support for research is unique, focusing on complex, high-risk challenges and important questions in science that transcend both disciplinary boundaries and geographic borders. CIFAR supports sustained collaborations to address global problems, open new fields of enquiry, and accelerate the creation and mobilization of knowledge that will help solve these challenges.

CIFAR is comprised of close to 400 fellows, scholars and advisors from more than 115 institutions in 17 countries. CIFAR fellows are among the most highly cited and honoured researchers in the world. As many as 18 Nobel Laureates have been associated with CIFAR since its inception.

CIFAR is generously supported by the governments of Canada, British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec, partners from around the world, individuals, foundations and corporations.
