History 336 Home | Schedule of Readings and Assignments

Quizzes = 20%

In the first part of the course, you will write four quizzes. Each quiz is worth 5% of the final grade. If you do not write a quiz when it is scheduled, you will get a mark of 0. I will not set a make-up quiz for those who miss a quiz for any reason. I will make no exceptions to this rule. Unless I indicate otherwise, a quiz will take place at the beginning of class. It will test your knowledge of essential facts and interpretations that you encounter in the assigned reading up to and including the reading assigned for the day on which the quiz takes place. Thus, for example, the first quiz on 21 May will be based on pp. 1-254 of Wiesner's book. Subsequent quizzes will be based on material covered since the most recent quiz up to and including the reading assigned for the day of the quiz in question. A quiz will consist of a series of questions (e.g., multiple choice, fill in the blanks, brief identifications) that require only a short answer and that test your grasp of the reading. Please consult the web page for each assigned reading to help you prepare for the quiz. A quiz may also contain questions that arise in the course of class discussions. If you do the assigned reading, attend every class, and participate, you will be in a good position to do well on the quizzes.
