Position Summary
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to help with fundraising and promotions for the Canadian Mental Health Associations Simon Fraser Branch First Annual Run Event. Be part of history in the making!
The Canadian Mental Health Association is a nationwide volunteer organization dedicated to the promotion of mental health and the provision of support for those experiencing mental illness. The purpose of the Annual run is to raise awareness and funds for CMHA support programs and the challenges surrounding mental illness. Benefits and Training
Volunteers will be trained in marketing, fundraising, communications and public speaking skills prior to contact with the community. This is an excellent opportunity to receive training and practice with the skills learned, while making a valuable contribution to a great cause. We currently have positions available for the summer term as well as the academic year. Volunteers that complete the commitment will be provided with a letter of reference, upon request.
Volunteer Tasks and Responsibilities (depending on interests of volunteer)
- Research and target companies and organizations that may provide funding, sponsorship and/or grants for the run and/or other CMHA activities.
- Coordinate distribution of sponsorship package to companies and organizations
- Schedule meetings with companies for marketing/sponsorship calls
- Network in the business community for contacts
- Distribute flyers at community centers, neighbourhood houses, schools, companies, or other organizations that would post information in their community
- Contact and solicit elementary, high schools and universities, colleges and other groups for promotion and awareness of the run and CMHA activities
Skills Required
- Excellent Communication skills in English (written and verbal)
- Willing to learn about fundraising / promotion strategies and mental health issues
- Good initiative and commitment
- Able to work in a team, as well as individually
