Patricia Wrean's
Asthma and Allergy WWW Resources Page
Here is a listing of some asthma and allergy WWW resources I think may
be of interest to those wanting to educate themselves about asthma and
allergies.
Comments, additions, and corrections are requested.
I will accept additions upon my own
judgement -- I'll warn you right now that I'm a confirmed skeptic and
am not a great believer in alternative medicine. As this resources list
is intended for general educational purposes directed at the layman, sites
containing only product/ordering information with no educational
material are unlikely to be added. Inclusion of a Web resource
on this page does not imply any endorsement of its contents.
Asthma
- alt.support.asthma FAQ: General information
- This is the html version of the general information FAQ for the
newsgroup alt.support.asthma,
containing information in a question-and-answer format about asthma,
symptoms, triggers, forms of treatment, related conditions and
diseases, and asthma medications.
- The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology (AAAAI) Web Site
- Children's Medical Center of the University of Virginia: Asthma Tutorial
- This is a basic introduction to the concepts of asthma, aimed at
children and their parents, but is very comprehensive and contains
some very good pictures illustrating the difference between a normal
lung and a lung undergoing asthma flare. It also contains movie and
sound clips, which I cannot comment on, not having the resouces to
view them.
- misc.kids Allergy and Asthma FAQ Page
- This page links to the various parts of the misc.kids Allergy
and Asthma FAQs:
General Information
Parts 1 &
2,
Allergy
and Asthma Resources, and
Allergy
Recipes. The General Information FAQs are collections of
personal experiences from parents of children with asthma, and
although mostly geared towards parents, much of the information
is useful for adults with asthma as well.
- National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine
- I highly recommend browsing the many, many topics available on
their Med Facts
page. Subjects range from diagnosis and treatment of asthma to
parenting an asthmatic child, from air pollutants to food hypersensitivity.
Allergy
- Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Online
- The American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (ACAAI)
has links to patient information on its home page. It also has html versions of its patient information handouts
accessible from its page Advice
From Your Allergist, on topics ranging from "What is rhinitis?"
to "Practical Tips for Pregnant Patients with Asthma or Other
Allergic Conditions".
