milking

Throughout the decades, milk production has become highly mechanized and scientifically refined. In 1940 milk production per cow was only at 2.3 compared to the current of 11.40 tons. The most cost-effective way to get such an unnatural amount of milk is for the cows to be milked twice (if not more) times a day over 10-12 month period. This frequent milking can cause teat lesions that can increase the cows risk of mastitis.
