I have been a faculty member in the department of economics at Simon Fraser University since 1972. My PhD in economics is from the University of Washington (1972) where I wrote my dissertation under Douglass North.

My main teaching area is economic history. My research interests are currently focused on economic prehistory, but also include European economic history, law and economics, cultural economics, long run economic growth, and the economics of inequality.
