The Posadas House is located in the San Sebastian parish, to the west of Cuenca's historic core.  This is a well-preserved house probably dating to the late eighteenth century, and most likely occupied by a middle-class family at the time it was built.  The front portico (A) and front rooms (B and D) provide space for a business or for rental accommodations,   allowing interaction with the street without impinging on the private space of the family.  Rooms surrounding the front patio (H) include a large dining room for receiving guests (M).  A narrow passage (N) leads from here to the rear garden patio (O), and adjoining kitchen (P), traditionally a space occupied by the servants or slaves who lived with the family.  A rear entrance onto an alleyway (Q) allowed servants or trade goods to enter the property without having to pass through the family's living space.  Rooms on an upper floor at the front of the house (T, U and S) were the private space of the family, while balconies (V and R) allowed family members to monitor activities in the street below, and in the front patio.
