1. Welcome and Introductions
-Liz introduced herself and welcomed members.
-We discussed possible vacancies due to upcoming retirement plans. Roger is retiring but plans to continue with the advisory committee work.
-As a newcomer to the Advisory meetings, Jo-Anne described her involvement with online communities of practice, and will distribute a paper she wrote on the topic.
2. Project Background
-Liz provided a brief background on the project, and some of the areas that have caused the project to take new directions, specifically choice of software to support the community.
3. SCOPE Project within LIDC
-John Moore was unable to attend the meeting. In his absense Liz outlined reorganization of eLINC and LIDC.
4. Progress Report
-Sylvia reviewed the main activities since the last meeting:
-Worked with Sakai as a community platform and revisited choice of software to support SCOPE
-Submitted a collaborative BCcampus proposal to request funding for a seminar series. It was not funded but we are encouraged to submit a proposal in 2006.
-Completed the iCohere Online Community Workshop Liz Wallace, Amy Severson, Stephanie Dayes, and Sylvia Currie attended and worked on the SFU team prototype project together. As part of the workshop package, iCohere staff offered to review our community site and offer feedback later in the summer.
-Networking activities: There is an interest among online educator community coordinators to begin a special interest group. Sylvia has offered SCOPE as a venue.
- We have been invited by CPSquare.org to present with other CQSquare members and workshop alumni at the e-Learn 2005 conference in Vancouver.
-Always making connections with potential SCOPE seminar moderators.
5. Use of Moodle for Community Platform
-Sylvia reviewed decision to use Moodle for the SCOPE community, emphasizing that there is still an interest in being involved in the Sakai project.
-We toured and discussed the SCOPE community site and main features of Moodle.
6. Pilot and Launch Activities
-The draft action plan was distributed
-The pilot and launch plans, and hosting plans were discussed.
-Sylvia toured the SCOPE Advisory Committee space.
-It was agreed that we could this space for ongoing discussion and consultation in lieu of several face-to-face meetings.
-Liz suggested we work together in SCOPE to refine the Terms of Reference
-Roger described his work with the Surrey campus curriculum project, and expressed interest in facilitating a seminar discussion in SCOPE related to developing online communities of of learners.
-We will continue advisory committee discussion in the SCOPE community.
-Sylvia will continue to add relevant documents, including the action plan.
-Jo-Anne offered suggestions for faculty orientation and liaison, some of which draw on resources in the Academic Relations website.
