EnglishStudentUnion

The ESU is the SFU English Department's student union. Each semester we receive funds from the SFSS to organize events and contribute to student life up on campus; everything from holding socials and contests to funding student conferences.

This resource is one which can greatly benefit students, and which students can contribute to in easy and substantial ways - your participation ensures success in our attempts to brighten the campus for English majors, minors and the community in general, creating spaces and environments where literary minded students can get together to work and play (we officially encourage play).

However, the irony is that, while we have one of the largest constituencies, the ubiquity of its members does not lead to increased visibility. Thus the aim becomes letting students know that they have a resource for funds and activities on campus - so help us make the stay here on the hill a heady experience, English style.

To contact us with any questions, ideas, or information about how to get involved, email us: sfuesu@sfu.ca or join our mailing list.

ESU Semester Start Social

We're hosting a good 'ol fashioned kegger at a house of an ESU member, located in Vancouver by Joyce station (exact address to be released closer to date). There'll be a keg, some food, and a copy of Joyce's Finnegan's Wake. Best of all - it's free! So bring yourself, a strong kidney, and even some poetry if you so please (but not the bad kind, y'know, the kind that'll move me - emotionally).

Saturday, September 27, 7pm.

Contest Winners!

Congratulations to our Spring 07 contest winners!

Grand Prize: Jessica Au's "Loop"
Finalists: Adrienne Labelle's "yet to relent"; Jonathan Sherman's "Commercial Drive Prophet"

A very special thanks to everyone who submitted. We got over 20 great submissions and it was a tough choice. Please submit again in our future contests!

Also, thanks to everyone who came out to Cafe Deux Soleils! Our long table was so full I practically had to straddle Adrien to get a seat (it was all business, I swear).

Keep on a lookout for a lot of great summer updates, whether or not you're on campus. Should be times.

Wishing you a great summer,
the ESU
