Summary: TECH 114 Summary D100 Team 1 Stephanie Yin Article number three (“Can’t hide your lying…face?”) relates to this course because it correlates with Week 9’s reading, “Visions of Truth.” In the article, it is revealed that new technology, technology that could be released as soon as next year, is the new way to detect deception. The technology described in the article reveals that by using this advanced machinery, we will all be able to see if you’re lying or not - and your face itself will betray you. The technology is vast: some of it can detect if there is a rush of heat to the face or even test for neuron signals. However, like most pieces of sophisticated equipment, they have their flaws, saying that truth-tellers were sometimes the opposite. What I find the most disconcerting about the use of this technology is the fact that when it comes out, many people will buy it. The average person out there has no use for this kind of technology, if only to wreck a surprise party or catch their children unawares with their hands in the cookie jar. This kind of superior technology ought to be controlled, lest George Orwell’s (in)famous saying, “Big Brother is Watching,” come true. I believe that only people upholding the law, like policemen, ought to have the right to this technology. It’s a tool that disrupts privacy; granted, it is for good intent, but even the best of intentions could go wrong.
