About the Department

The FHCRC Program in Biostatistics & Biomathematics is seeking a Statistical Research Associate II/III to work with the Biostatistics Shared Resource (BSR).  The BSR is a group of PhD and Masters level statisticians who collaborate with each other and with scientific investigators in all areas of Center research (Public Health Sciences, Clinical Research, and Basic Sciences). This position will be funded by a long-term Core grant and by individual projects, including a multiple year project involving large-scale genome-wide association studies with the goal of identifying susceptibility genes associated with cancer risk and investigating interaction between genes and environment
factors.

The successful candidate for this position will have the opportunity to work on multiple projects simultaneously with independent, faculty-level biostatisticians and other scientists on a broad set of research topics. Each individual study will add to our knowledge of cancer genetics and environmental factors which will impact clinical practice and cancer prevention in the future.

Major Duties

The Biostatistician will work with multidisciplinary research teams to assist in determining optimum statistical study designs, perform data analyses, and support the development and implementation of relevant novel statistical methods.  Furthermore, the person will prepare written summaries and tables of results, document statistical analysis, develop and evaluate new statistical software, and
assist manuscript preparation.

Qualifications

 1. Masterʼs degree in Biostatistics or Statistics
 2. A minimum of one to two years related statistical experience.
3. Experience with statistical packages such as SAS, R, S-Plus or Matlab; and experience working
    with LINUX
 4. Strong written and verbal communication skills
 5. Ability and willingness to participate in multiple projects concurrently
6. Ability to manage ambiguous situations and demonstrate flexibility, while working with multiple
    people across the organization.
7. Experience with statistical and computational methods for the analysis of complex,
    high-dimensional genotype data is desirable
