We are currently seeking an:

STATISTICIAN/EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT

TO THE CHIEF STATISTICIAN

(1 permanent vacancy/Toronto Office)


To help us achieve this vision, we are looking for a strategic and energetic team player to work directly with the Chief Statistician and play a critical role in analyzing statistical data, interpreting the results and providing advice and support for executive decision making.  

This position will act as the central point of contact for the Chief Statistician and support the administration and co-ordination of day-to-day activities and special projects.  This includes managing and monitoring an Executive’s calendar, organizing meetings and preparing materials in advance of meetings

Working closely with the Office of the President, the Offices of the other Chiefs and Senior Management Committee members, the Executive Assistant will facilitate the flow of information which is predominately statistical in nature, consolidating and translating as necessary.

Responsibilities include:

·        Act as a central point of contact on behalf of the Chief Statistician in dealing with a range of issues/complaints and requests for information related to statistics and data from internal and external clients and vendors.  This includes researching the issue, determining possible solutions, preparing written comprehensive summary reports and executive correspondence and presenting details with recommendations to the Chief Statistician.

·        Participate as a representative on committees ensuring the Chief Statistician's interests are heard and protected, asking key questions, determining possible impacts of committee decisions on the business of the Office, negotiating the most effective solutions and communicating information to the Chief Statistician and senior management on an ongoing basis.

·        Co-ordinate project work on matters requiring investigation, research and analysis including identifying resources, allocation of work based on priorities and established goals and objectives for the completion of projects, consolidating research findings and preparing final submissions with appropriate recommendations for the Chief Statistician's review.

·        Review policy proposals, research reports and data to identify issues of importance and provide relevant commentary and advice to the Chief Statistician. This includes anticipating problems, gathering/seeking information and identifying and developing available options.

·        Co-ordinate reporting requirements with related partners ensuring comprehensive information and analysis along with timely delivery.

Position Requirements:

1.        Knowledge of statistical principles and theories, normally acquired through a recognized university degree and directly related experience in order to participate in methodological discussions and data analysis as well as participate in the development of goals, objectives, budgets, etc.

2.        Knowledge of project management and time management principles.

3.        Knowledge of finance and the budgeting process.

4.        Knowledge of computer systems and software applications including word processing, spreadsheet application skills, Internet, SAS and other statistical tools.

5.        Well developed writing and editing skills.

6.        Excellent interpersonal skills with experience building rapport with senior management and internal/external stakeholders on a wide variety of issues which may be highly sensitive or controversial in nature.

7.        Knowledge of the external political, economic and social climate of Ontario and beyond to identify trends, potential issues and their impact to the mandate of the Office; other WCB jurisdictions to obtain information, conduct research or re-direct enquiries from interested parties/stakeholders on inter-jurisdictional issues, etc.
