Manager, Statistics
 
Department of Medicine, McMaster University

The Manager of Statistics is responsible for the overall management and supervision of statistical staff within the Clinical Trials and Registries and Genetics and Epidemiology Program for the Population Health Research Institute, providing direction, advice and statistical expertise. Through this direction, as well as individual project responsibilities, he/she is responsible for ensuring that all statistical reporting and analysis is appropriate, accurate and meets deadlines; Develops and maintains the statistical department’s operational objectives and plans, policies and procedures, and work collaboratively with other managers as required to meet PHRI objectives. Duties include: Supervise statistical staff and provide guidance on their individual projects both in statistical methods and statistical programming. Oversee the analysis for projects and be responsible for the quality assurance of the results. All statistical analyses require the ability to withstand independent scrutiny by government regulatory agencies such as HPB and FDA. Provide statistical support for the design of research studies and grant proposals to be submitted to external funding agencies. Interact independently and confidentially with data and safety monitoring boards for large trials. Develop unique concepts and methods of statistical analysis where standard methodologies do not adequately address the problem, with ability to publish and present these methods at conferences and meetings. A Masters or PhD in biostatistics or statistics is required. Extensive experience in clinical trials with the ability to work independently and experience with large databases in biomedical or a related field essential, along with proven supervisory experience essential. Strong applied statistical and computing skills using SAS in a UNIX Environment. Strong communication skills, both oral and written are required. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative group are required.
