Genome-Wide Meta-Analysis of Colorectal Cancer Studies in GECCO (Genetics and Epidemiology of Colorectal Cancer Consortium)
Conghui (Flora) Qu graduated from Simon Fraser University with a M.Sc. in Statistics. She has been working in the Public Health Science Division of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, WA since 2011. She mainly works in the group of Dr. Ulrike Peters as a statistical analyst in the Genetics and Epidemiology of Colorectal Cancer Consortium (GECCO).
Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in the world, and only a few of the genetic risk loci have been identified. To identify additional common genetic risk factors for colorectal tumors, GECCO conducted a genome-wide scan across 14 independent studies, which include 12,696 cases of colorectal tumors and 15,113 controls of European descent. The 10 most statistically significant, but previously unreported findings were followed up in 6 studies; these included 3056 colorectal tumor cases and 6658 controls involving both European and Asian descents. Based on the combined analysis, a locus was identified to reach the conventional genome-wide significance level.
