Dear SSC members,
The Okanagan campus of UBC is looking for an assistant professor in Statistics. Please bring the following ad to the attention of qualified candidates.
Thank you,
Paramjit Gill

------------------------------------------------------------------
Statistics -  Assistant Professor (tenure-track)
Location:     Kelowna - UBC Okanagan
Desired Start Date: July 1, 2015
Closing Date:  Feb 13, 2015. The process will continue until the position is filled.

The Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus, invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin as early as July 1, 2015.  The position will be held in Unit 5 in the Barber School (http://web.ubc.ca/okanagan/ikbarberschool/welcome.html).

UBC is consistently ranked among the world's top 40 universities, and the UBC system comprises two distinct and autonomous campuses in the province of British Columbia - one in Vancouver and the other in Kelowna. Kelowna, situated in the Okanagan Valley in the southern interior of the province, is experiencing rapid growth and is considered one of the most desirable regions to live in Canada.

The statistics group at UBC Okanagan is part of a dynamic and highly interdisciplinary unit, together with Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics.  The successful candidate will have a PhD in Statistics, a strong research record and demonstrated excellence in and commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching.  All areas of statistics will be considered, but preference will be given to those candidates specializing in computational statistics, environmental statistics, uncertainty quantification or those that can collaborate with current unit strengths in optimization and medical physics. Teaching is expected in areas relating to statistics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. UBC Okanagan hires on the basis of merit and is strongly committed to diversity within its community and especially welcomes applications from women, visible minority group members, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity, and others who may contribute to further diversification of ideas. However, Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.  All appointments are subject to budgetary approval.

How to Apply:
Applicants should provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching ability (e.g. course evaluations), program of research statement, and the names and contact information of three referees.

All documents must be submitted as e-mail attachments and sent to recruitment.bsas@ubc.ca, in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format. Please put the competition title on the subject line of the e-mail and declare whether you are legally entitled to work in Canada.

Applications will be reviewed beginning  January 5, 2015. The process will continue until the position is filled.

UBC hires on the basis of merit and is strongly committed to equity and diversity within its community.  We especially welcome applications from visible minority group members, women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to productively engage with diverse communities.  All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
