Policy Analyst
Salary $58,915.64 to $67,319.53 annually
This is a temporary full time vacancy for approximately 7 months.


The First Nations Branch provides leadership in the ministry to increase First Nations participation in the forest sector through the First Nations Forest Strategy, coordinates consultation processes in the Natural Resource Sector, coordinates the ministry's support to the Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation (MARR) in treaty and reconciliation initiatives and develops appropriate policy and legislation.

This position will develop and implement aboriginal policy and natural resource sector legislation in collaboration with other ministries and coordinate the implementation of consultation policy, procedures and practices across the Ministry. The Branch works closely with First Nations and their organizations, Executive, Divisions, Regions, BC Timber Sales, provincial and federal agencies, industry stakeholders and partners to help develop a better relationship with First Nations, work to advance their economic interests and ensure the natural resource sector continues to provide benefits to the province.

Regular employees must have their supervisor's approval prior to applying for this temporary opportunity.

A criminal record check will be required. An eligibility list may be established.

To be considered for this position, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have the following education and experience:

·         Completion of post-secondary degree (economic or social development, resource management, aboriginal studies, and /or public administration) plus 1 year of relevant experience; OR, if no completion of post-secondary education, 5 years of recent progressively more responsible relevant experience.

·         Relevant experience must include at least two of the following:

o    Conducting complex research and analysis to support decision making and policy development;

o    Writing a variety of complex proposals, policy drafts, reports  and other documentation on emerging trends;

o    Managing projects and/or project components;

o    Advanced-level experience in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, InfoPath, Access, SharePoint).

·         Preference may be given to applicants with experience in Natural Resource Management.

·         Preference may be given to applicants with experience working with First Nation communities and or facilitating First Nation consultation.
