The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Victoria invites applications for a Canada 

Research Chair in Biostatistics anticipated to commence July 1, 2016. 



This position provides an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Statistician with a very strong, innovative 

research program focused on developing and applying statistical methods to understand large-scale genetic 

and high throughput biological data. The successful candidate will find a supportive and intellectually 

challenging academic environment at the University of Victoria, which is home to the Genome B.C. 

Proteomics Centre, genomics collaborators in the Departments of Biochemistry and Microbiology, Biology and 

Computer Science, and research connections with the Deeley Research Centre of the B.C. Cancer Agency 

Vancouver Island Centre. 



Canada Research Chairs (Tier II) are prestigious positions, awarded for five years, renewable once. The 

successful candidate will be appointed to a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level 

at the University of Victoria, depending on experience. CRC (Tier II) nominees are expected to be emerging 

world-class researchers, with the potential to attract and develop excellent trainees. Applicants must have a 

Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related discipline. Under the terms of the Canada Research Chair 

program, candidates may be from new Ph.D.s up to 10 years beyond the doctorate at the time of 

nomination. (Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree, and where 

career breaks exist, may have their eligibility for a Tier II Chair assessed through the program's Tier II 

justification process.) Successful applicants will demonstrate excellence or potential for excellence in 

graduate and undergraduate teaching.

interest in, and experience pertaining to, the position; a research statement; a curriculum vitae; and a 

teaching dossier. These should be uploaded to the MathJobs site. 



Applicants should arrange for at least three letters of reference to be posted to MathJobs in support of their 

application. At least one letter should address teaching.
