Please note:  Only Canadian Citizens, legal residents or residents with a legal work permit will be considered.

STATUS:  This is a one-year, full time position with the possibility to extend.

 

JOB START DATE:  As soon as possible

 

SALARY:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience

 

LOCATION:  BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE), Vancouver, BC

 

JOB:  Performs duties related to analysis and interpretation of data, conducts outcome evaluation, statistical analysis and advises on the creation of databases, and serves as resource on statistical methodology and outcome evaluation.

 

ORGANIZATION:  The BC-CfE currently employs a team of Statisticians, Programmers, Data Managers, Clinical Research Assistants, Data Analysts and Data Entry Clerks who work collaboratively on cohort-based epidemiological and clinical studies.  The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS research centre including Research Laboratory, Clinical Trials, Drug Treatment Program, Epidemiology and Professional Education Programs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

·     Analytical support for research conducted using quantitative data analysis using descriptive and statistical methodologies

·     Work collaboratively on writing scientific papers, providing statistical results, writing methods and result sections, preparing tables and figures

·     Work collaborative on writing grant proposals, including proofing proposals, providing a priori power and sample size calculations

·     Work with project investigators, coordinators and administrators ensuring appropriate fund allocations and ensuring research design meets requirements for evaluation purposes

·     Acts as a statistical resource for colleagues on experimental design statistical methodology and theory and assists researchers with oral presentations, including making graphics and teaching basics of presentation software

·     Data retrieval and management of databases for cohort-based studies, including writing computer programs and macros to capture and edit data

·     Supervise biostatisticians and statisticians

·     Maintaining confidentiality in dealing with all matters

          

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

·     Masters or PhD in Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, Public Health or Epidemiology with a statistical focus

·     Expertise and experience in conducting spatial analysis preferred (e.g., with geocoded data, Geographic Information Systems analyses)

·     2 years of recent related experience including experience in analysis and interpretation of medical/health related data such as Epidemiology, Health Services Research or Biostatistics

·     Demonstrated experience in preparing analytical reports and analysis

·     Extensive knowledge of statistical software packages (SAS, S-plus, SPSS), as well as Oracle Database knowledge

·     Knowledge of statistical design and quantitative methods

·     Ability to perform and interpret complex statistical analyses

·     Ability to self-motivate, with managerial, leadership and project management skills

·     Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, multi-tasking and problem solving skills, with the ability to work independently within a team environment as well as the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines

·     Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and/or medical terminology
