Applications are requested for a two-year full time position for someone with a masters level training in applied mathematics or statistical computing to work with an international team of researchers involved in developing methodology for the analysis of data distributed over time, space and space/time.   The research involves modelling data with ordinary and partial differential equations, and often using finite element methods.

The principal requirements are for computational skills for coding in C/C++, interfacing the code with Matlab and R, and maintaining toolboxes and packages for researchers applying these methods.  Expertise in either statistics or applied mathematics is required, but not necessarily both; and the position can involve training in needed areas of mathematics and statistics as required.  Application development is also envisaged, but prior expertise in this fast-moving area is not a necessity.

This is an opportunity to become active in an exciting new area as a preparation for doctoral and higher level research training, and involves working with James Ramsay, a professor emeritus at McGill University, Dr. Michelle Carey, a postdoctoral fellow working with Prof. Ramsay and Prof. Christian Genest at McGill, as well as research teams in Milan, Cambridge and Bonn.  There will opportunities to travel and attend conferences in order to acquire new skills.

The position will be at McGill University, but will require residence at Ottawa.  The salary will competitive within the framework of a research associate working within an academic context, and the current hourly base rate at McGill is $21.00.
