The University of Northern British Columbia, in conjunction with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, invites applications for an Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2017. Applicants in Applied Mathematics are preferred. The position requires a PhD degree in Mathematics or a related discipline and high quality teaching experience.

The applicant will be expected to successfully instruct across a broad range of the undergraduate mathematics curriculum; communicate effectively with students both in and out of the classroom; and to supervise students in our Masters' program. Energetic and motivated, the candidate will be expected to be involved in the UNBC community.

The UNBC Department of Mathematics and Statistics is a small unit that provides a Major in Mathematics and Minors in Mathematics and Statistics. An important feature of the mathematics degree program is the early emphasis on the development of abstract reasoning and the relation of the abstract to the concrete. The degree requirements have been chosen so as to provide students with a broad background in mathematics while still leaving them room to pursue their individual interests. The Department works closely with the Academic Success Centre and students have the opportunity to lead tutorials, to tutor, and to develop teaching skills.
