Statistical Enrolment Research Analyst 

Student Recruitment 

(2 Year Term, Fulltime) 



Purpose: 

Reporting to the Vice President Academic and Provost and the Vice Provost of Student Recruitment, the Statistical Enrolment Research Analyst provides executive level statistical and research support to the Office of the Provost and the UNBC Enrolment Task Force through the provision of institutional reports, quantitative information analysis and data synthesis to support strategic, operational and management decisions related to student enrolment and retention. 



Responsibilities: 

The Analyst is considered a data scientist primarily serving to leverage student enrolment efforts with analytical and interpretation of data related to prospective student, current student and alumni trends, facilitating the strategic planning process and providing sound research and analysis for evidence-based decision making. The incumbent will work closely with the University’s Enrolment Task Force and Institutional Planning Analysts to generate and present internal reports to guide strategic enrolment management and be relied upon by University Deans, Directors, Senior Administrators, the Senate, and when requested, the Board of Governors. 

Duties include but are not limited to: 

· liaising with the Enrolment Task Force and Institutional Planning Analysts based on the needs and priorities established by senior administration; 

· maintaining a current knowledge base of relational database structure, extraction tools, advanced statistical analyses and interpretation techniques; 

· extracting and compiling data from the Enterprise Resource Planning System (i.e., Banner) and retrieval from external sources (e.g., government ministries, StatCan, Associations) 

· executing and leading complex research and analysis projects, managing research design, data collection, data integration, analysis and final report preparation; 

· auditing the integrity of the data in the course of each research project, and making recommendations for enhancing reliable data collection; 

· providing contextualized interpretations including data visualization, resulting from the statistical analyses; 

· using predictive statistical tools such as regression analysis, preparing enrolment forecasts and projections in advance of critical student enrolment cycles; 

· consulting with the Provost and Vice Provost and collaborating with the Institutional Planning Analysts to integrate business intelligence into both improved data application in operations, and effective benchmarking in the University’s business units; 

· effectively relaying complex information to a broad, diverse and educated audience through written reports and oral presentations. 



Qualifications: 

The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree in a research related field with emphasis in statistics or social science research. Between 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a research or post-secondary environment is required, with a focus on complex relational databases, advanced statistical analyses, regression analyses, data visualization, and statistical reporting and communication of findings. Candidates must have excellent knowledge of statistical, economic and social sciences methodologies, higher education management and of data collecting and reporting principles. Knowledge of SQL and relational databases is critical, particularly in the context of academic Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (e.g. Banner). Must demonstrate analytic and technical proficiency with a variety of tools including MS Excel and MS Access, statistical software such as SPSS, Business Intelligence Applications (e.g. Cognos), data extraction and reporting packages, and data warehouse and production environments. 

Candidates must demonstrate analytical approach to problem solving, and a natural curiosity to undertake research for appropriate resolutions to business rules and data methodologies. 

It is essential to prioritize tasks in a highly organized manner, be self-directed and resourceful in an ever changing work environment. Initiative and independence, balanced with experience working in collaborative teams are necessary. The successful candidate must demonstrate a high level of business and political acumen with discretion and confidentiality essential to the work. 

Effective communication skills must not only be demonstrated for excellent interpersonal dynamics, but be applied to written and oral presentation of complex information. Statistical and technical concepts must be communicated in a way that brings clarity and meaning to data and critical analysis. There should be a demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students and external stakeholders with exceptional interpersonal skills and professionalism 



Salary: 

This position has been classified at Grade 13. The annual salary range for this position is $66,681.23 – $69,448.62, and the normal starting salary will be $66,681.23. UNBC offers an attractive benefits package and funding for professional development. ( Note: Employees relocating from a distance of 100 kilometres or more are eligible for relocation assistance.) 



Normal hours of work will be 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
