The Biostatistics Department at Princess Margaret/Ontario
Cancer Institute (PM/OCI) is a member department of the Cancer Clinical Research Unit (CCRU) that collaborates with PM/OCI clinical and basic researchers in a broad spectrum of oncology studies by providing statistical design and analysis expertise. It supports
approximately 150 new studies per year including clinical trials, retrospective studies, and cancer translational studies. In addition, it is involved in teaching biostatistics to fellows and residents within the PM as well as graduate students within the
Division of Biostatistics, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. The Biostatistics Department invites applications for a permanent full-time Principal Biostatistician position.
The Principal Biostatistician plays a crucial
role providing leadership and expert statistical collaboration to researcher at PM. Primary responsibilities include: providing statistical expertise to oncology researchers either as a co-investigator or lead investigator in the planning, conduct, analysis
and reporting of research studies; applying efficient study designs, ensuring studies are appropriately powered to reliably answer study questions, providing advice on data collection, analysis using statistically valid
methods; reporting results, including the writing of statistical methods sections of manuscripts submitted for publication. In addition, the Principal Biostatistician is responsible for conducting scholarly research in biostatistics methods; introducing new
statistical methods to other researchers; supervising entry level biostatisticians and graduate students; providing mentorship and statistical advice to biostatisticians in the Department; participating in the international statistical community and providing
leadership in areas of expertise.
The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in Biostatistics,
Statistics or equivalent, minimum five years of statistical consulting and research experience, excellent oral and written communication. Master’s degree in Biostatistics or Statistics with 15 years of applicable experience will be considered.
Excellent consulting, interpersonal and problem solving skills. S/he is expected to be working independently and to manage multiple projects concurrently. Advanced expertise with statistical computing in SAS and R.
