Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream – Mathematics in Teacher Education

The Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning (CTL) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto invites applications for a teaching stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with a specialization in Mathematics in Teacher Education. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2019.

We seek candidates with instructional expertise in mathematics teacher education at the elementary level, supplemented by demonstrated excellence in mathematics teacher education research, including math anxiety among teachers, and familiarity with research and practice perspectives on initial teacher education.

Applicants must hold a Doctorate in Education or a related discipline with a focus on Mathematics Education. The successful candidate will have demonstrated both teaching excellence and extensive experience in mathematics teaching and pedagogy within elementary schools as well as at the graduate level. Evidence of excellence in University teaching and pedagogy is required, as demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (including a statement of teaching philosophy, sample course syllabi, and teaching evaluations) submitted as part of the application, and strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.

Candidates must also provide evidence of excellence in pedagogical practice and an ongoing program of teaching-related scholarly activity within the areas of mathematics education and teacher education. The successful candidate will demonstrate all of the following: (a) significant leadership experience in a Canadian teacher education program; (b) leadership experience in mathematics education at the classroom, school, district, and provincial levels; (c) extensive knowledge of equity issues within mathematics education; (d) strong understanding of teaching and learning in the Ontario context; (e) a demonstrated commitment to mathematics teacher education and the continuing professional development of teachers; (f) demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with University colleagues as well as professionals in school boards and K-12 schools. The successful candidate will also have excellent organization and communication skills and qualifications as an Ontario certified teacher (OCT).

Responsibilities of the position include teaching courses in the Master of Teaching program and the Curriculum Studies and Teacher Development program, as well as providing leadership and innovative programming for our Master of Teaching students.
