The Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Alberta invites applications for a Max Wyman Term Assistant Professorship in the area of Statistics. This is a non-tenure-track, three-year fixed-term position under the Contract Academic Staff: Teaching Agreement (CAST). The position offers a stimulating research and teaching environment with a reduced teaching load (averaging two one-semester courses per year). A start-up research grant is included with the position. Salary is commensurate with that of an Assistant Professor.
Applicants are expected to have a PhD degree in Statistics or Biostatistics by July 1, 2019, demonstrated accomplishments and outstanding promise in research in an area of Statistics, as well as a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching. Applicants are expected to develop an independent research program and will be eligible to apply for federal research funds in accordance with University policies and procedures.
The University of Alberta has one of the leading joint Mathematics/Statistics departments in Canada and has strong connections with other scientific institutes, such as the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS), Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI), and the Banff International Research Station (BIRS).
