The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at The University of Winnipeg invites applications for a 3-year term position in mathematics at the rank of Instructor. This is a teaching position, where the successful candidate will teach mathematics content courses to pre-service teachers in The University of Winnipeg's Community-based Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (CATEP) and The University of Winnipeg Education Centre (WEC) Program. Both are part of The University of Winnipeg's ACCESS Education Programs. Subject to budgetary approval, this position will commence August 1, 2019. Salary levels will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will join the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, which has fourteen tenured, tenure-track and continuing appointment faculty members.  Further information about the department, including descriptions of courses offered, is available at https://www.uwinnipeg.ca/mathstats/. The candidate will also work closely with The University of Winnipeg's ACCESS Education Programs; information about the ACCESS programs can be found at https://www.uwinnipeg.ca/access-education/.

Candidates should ideally hold a PhD in mathematics or a related mathematical science, but exceptional candidates with an MSc in mathematics will be considered. A background in education, in addition to one of the aforementioned degrees, would be an asset.

Candidates should have:

  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • experience in teaching pre-university mathematics and university mathematics to mature learners and students from diverse backgrounds;
  • a demonstrated record of teaching excellence;
  • a commitment to working towards success for students with varying mathematics backgrounds, while maintaining the department's high standards.

The successful candidate will be required to teach mathematics content courses for students in The University of Winnipeg ACCESS programs, which will primarily include teaching pre-university math courses and math content courses for pre-service elementary and middle years teachers. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to take part in service to the University, which includes working collegially with members of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics on committees and taking part in mathematics outreach activities.

Applicants must submit all of the above materials through The University of Winnipeg's online recruitment system.

In addition, candidates should arrange for at least two letters of reference that address the candidate's teaching to be sent by the referees directly to:

The selection committee will begin reviewing applications on March 1, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled; full consideration is assured for applications received by February 28, 2019.
