Subject: [d-ssc] Post-doctoral Fellowship Opportunity

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral opportunity in biostatistics, with specific emphasis on modeling and analyzing health data from large administrative datasets. The successful applicant will be involved in the development of statistical methodology and analysis of data sets with existing and new methods. Work will focus on marked point processes and multistate models for administrative health data using a variety of linked health databases.


The work will be conducted in the biostatistics research laboratory of Prof. Rhonda Rosychuk in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. The primary responsibilities are to: assist in the development of methodology to address research questions, conduct literature searches and reviews, develop computer code to implement new methodology, perform statistical analyses using existing and new methods on data sets, aid in the preparation of presentations and manuscripts, and assist in the creation of grant applications for statistical methods development.


Qualified applicants should have: a completed or nearly completed PhD in Statistics or Biostatistics, excellent oral and written communication skills, and exceptional computing skills on Unix/Linux/Windows platforms with software packages such as R/RStudio. Ability to program in C/C++ is an asset. Applicants are invited to contact Prof. Rosychuk for additional information.


The post-doctoral position will be funded by a grant for an initial 1 year term and continuation will depend on progress and funding. There is flexibility in the start date for the successful applicant. The successful applicant will be expected to apply for post-doctoral fellowship awards ((links below) from the Women & Children’s Health Research Institute, Alberta Innovates, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and/or Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council. Exceptional candidates may be considered for a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship.
