I’m looking to fill a 1 to 2 year full-time position at the National Research Council of Canada for a recent or to-be PhD graduate (with the degree earned within the last 5 years or expected within 6 months). A primary focus of this position
would be to support a current research project, revisiting and reassessing the total cost of fire in Canada (last updated in 1995). As this project is currently in its early phases, work would include assisting in stakeholder dialogues to discuss desired applications
for a total-cost-of-fire estimation tool, availability of input data, and estimation methodologies to align available data to end-user interests. Further work may involve developing one or more modules that would each be focused on an individual cost component,
analyzing available data and applying an appropriate methodology to determine cost estimates for that module.
Beneficial skills for potential candidates include experience in statistical analysis, cost-benefit analysis, impact analysis, economics, and/or handling varying qualities of data and varying methods of data collection. Explicit fire-related
experience is not necessary. Please note that with the COVID-19 travel restrictions, th
e position is limited to candidates already residing in Canada.
