Environmental History Data Lab

The Environmental History Data Lab operates in conjunction with the History and Geography Departments at Simon Fraser University. The EHDL enables historians and geographers to pursue interdisciplinary projects involving archival research and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) analysis of historical and spatial data. The EHDL was built with support from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, the BC government, and Simon Fraser University. Its purpose, in addition to supporting research on the environmental history of the northeast Pacific fisheries, is to be a center for interdisciplinary training of undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to the four computer workstations for GIS research and advanced map-making procedures, the lab can also facilitate small seminars with digital projection. There are also plans to organize a regional workshop on interdisciplinary fishery research in 2008.
