whisper was exhibited at the Dutch Electronic Arts Festival (DEAF03) in Rotterdam in March 2003; at the Future Physical respond festival in Cambridge, UK, in April 2003, at e-culture in Amsterdam in October 2003, and at the New Forms Festival in Vancouver in November 2003.

whisper was the first of a series of 3 artistic prototypes in current ongoing work with real-time interactive wearable public art. The whisper installation was based on small wearable microcontrollers, and wireless network transmission using physiological data. In the whisper installation these were embedded in a soft white jacket-like garment with detachable sleeves, reminiscent of a hybrid kimono, pyjama and smoking jacket in a soft, fluffy white fabric. whisper explored the visible and sonic output from each participants heart and breath data as it was projected in real-time onto the floor space in small light pools, (one pool for each participant),

whisper is an acronym for [wearable, handheld, intimate, sensory, personal, expressive, responsive system], and this acronym still describes the focus of continuing work with wearable technologies. Focusing on body state, whisper's interaction enabled the physical data patterns of the body: heart rate and respiration to be linked and worn within a specially designed jacket. The whisper installation collected data from the bodies of participants, and through visualisation and sonification techniques, enabled participants to interact, interconnect and interpret their own and other participants internal data in playful and responsive ways.
