Welcome to my home page


I am currently a full-time faculty member in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C. I received my BA (Honours) in Law and English Literature from Carleton University, M.A. in Socio-legal Studies from the University of Sheffield, M.Phil. in Criminology from the University of Cambridge, and Ph.D. in Criminology from the University of Cambridge.

My research interests are in the areas of race, racialization and the criminal justice system, immigration enforcement and crime control, gender and race in the construction of madness, welfare surveillance, poverty and social exclusion,
feminist and critical criminology, feminist approaches to domestic violence and spousal homicides.
 
I currently supervise graduate students working in the following areas: immigrant youth integration, refugee youth and the criminal justice system, Slavic immigrants and the historical racialization of Slavs in Canada; workplace injury, poverty and the welfare state, immigrant integration and sports in Canada, taxpayer rationality, citizenship and neoliberalism.
