Who Chooses the Supervisors?

The Technical Supervisor is normally the project supervisor in industry-based theses while the Academic Supervisor is normally the project supervisor in university-based theses. The Academic Supervisor should be chosen as soon as a project is identified. In consultation with the Academic Supervisor and/or Technical Supervisor, the student should identify a third potential committee member and ask them to participate on the thesis committee.

In some cases, the job of putting your committee together may be easier if you draft a pre-proposal to present your understanding of the project. If you have all members of your committee read and comment on such a document, then you can be relatively certain that they are in general agreement concerning the nature and scope of the project and the way you plan to approach the task at hand.
