Who Qualifies for Each Category of Supervisor?


Academic Supervisor A faculty member in an SFU department or school with specific expertise in the thesis topic.
Technical Supervisor An individual employed as an engineer, scientist, or equivalent with the company or organization associated with the student’s project work. The Technical Supervisor will have university degree(s), work experience, and professional qualifications sufficient to provide technical and scientific supervision to the student at the requisite level.
Committee Member A faculty or technical staff member in an SFU department or school. This individual may or may not have specific expertise in the thesis topic. Staff members should have a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree, appropriate work experience, and professional qualifications. Occasionally, the committee member may be another individual associated with the company or organization where the student is doing their thesis work.
