Karen will investigate issues in public archaeology, specifically the dissemination of archaeological information via the WWW. Karen will modify the existing web pages on Scowlitz after consultation with the Sto:lo Nation, Scowlitz band members and faculty. In addition, Karen will work to increase the page interactivity. Karen will concentrate on bringing the public to this site (and the SFU museum site) by establishing links with other sites designed for children. The result will be a web page that has more visitors, especially children, which provides fun, interesting and accurate information on archaeology, something that is definitely needed. In the political climate of today, the public needs to know exactly what archaeology is and isn't. In this situation, the internet is an ideal medium as it enables people to discover for themselves what archaeology and archaeologists in British Columbia are all about. Signed, Dr. Barbara Winter ______________ Karen Spicer_______________ Date _____________ ************************** Karen: I don't think we need to outline specific tasks in the proposal. I would suggest the following for us to use: Specific tasks: Karen * children's fun page (quiz and certificate) * highlighted (floating) definitions for difficult words * pictures which correspond to each year of the excavation * general tidying up of the pages for consistency and user-friendliness * more offshoot information pages * links to and from other child-friendly sites New ones I am suggesting go over the entire Scowlitz site with Dana, modify for accuracy of data. link the page to the SFU Museum page and troubleshoot upload. What do you think? B ************************* Barbara J.
