PUERTA DE LUNA

Like Puerta Del Sol, Puerta De La Luna is carved from a single block of stone. This impressive monolith is the Gateway of the Moon, and is said to align with the rising moon on important ceremonial occasions. The material used to construct this gateway, and the Puerta Del Sol and monolithic statues, was transported from great distances across Lake Titicaca. It is unknown just how the Tiwanakans transported this stone material, presumably it was carried by reed boats across Lake Titicaca, and then transported overland to the city.
