CUZCO: The Beginning of the Inca Trail Adventure

Cuzco was the capital of the Inka Empire at the time of conquest. Trips to Machu Picchu begin here, at the train station. Visitors have the choice of riding the train all the way to the ruins or they can get off as a tour and hike along the 88 Km "Inka Trail". The hike usually takes three days, with the fourth day spent at Machu Picchu. The scenic trail and the ruins along the ways are spectacular!

The people of the Inka Empire were Quechua speakers, and still live in Peru today. Remnants of the civilization are incorporated into the colonial architecture of Cuzco, as seen in this photo.
