LOOK OUT STATION

The second pass of day two dips down into a valley and then climbs upwards to a strategically placed look out station. From the viewing point any travellers are seen long before they make their way up the pass, allowing protection for the city Machu Picchu, another day's journey away. Quite likely this station served as a residence for the watchmen, and most likely some herds of llamas as well.
