Celebration of Man and Nature
December 02, 2004 , vol. 31, no. 7
Celebration of Man and Nature is a sculpture in acrylic and polyester resin by Hannah Franklin sponsored by the William Barker family and B.C. Bearing Engineers. The Montreal sculptor/painter was one of 10 Canadian artists who spent two months in Vancouver creating pieces for the 1986 Centennial Sculpture Symposium during Expo 86. Columns from local newspapers encased in resin are snapshots of city life. The sculpture, located in the north wing of the academic quadrangle, represent buildings in a landscape, and the blue disc is a nurturing sun, frost, clouds and the sea.
