Norris's cartoon

Cartoon text:

"...and why should we continue to put up with overcrowded classes and facilities..."

Len Norris' cartoon captures the 1960s look of the students, their vehicles and their 1960s attitude. It appeared in The Vancouver Sun, Sept. 10, 1968.

"Phil's Freeway" -- Gaglardi Way -- was constructed by the BC Department of Highways and named after its Minister, Phil Gaglardi.

Construction began on the new university campus in November 1963. When Simon Fraser University opened September 9, 1965, it was dubbed the "Instant University".

The SFU Archives contains some wonderful historical treasures to be discovered.
