10th Annual Printemps de la Francophonie at SFU: 20 Free Events within the Community!


Burnaby, February 25, 2020 – From March 2 to 27, 2020, the Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs (OFFA) at Simon Fraser University (SFU) will host the 10th Annual Printemps de la francophonie, an event celebrating Canadian and international Francophonie. A series of workshops, panel discussions, cultural activities and screenings of French-language films will take place at SFU’s Burnaby and Vancouver campuses.

Local Francophones and Francophiles can choose from a wealth of activities in French, including twenty free events featuring numerous speakers, artists and well-known figures from near and far.

Current topics will be discussed at three panel discussions entitled "Climate Change: Emerging Challenges”, “Horizons of Meaning, Horizons of Absence: A Political Sociology of Memory and Amnesia in Canada” and “Representation of Female Sexuality and Healthy Youth Relationships” which will take place in downtown Vancouver on March 5, 12 and 26, respectively.

Two French Movie Nights will be hosted at SFU Woodward's Goldcorp Centre for the Arts. On Wednesday, March 11, the public is invited to attend a special screening of Edmond, preceded by a reception with the Honorary Consul of Lebanon and Celebration of the Centenary (1920-2020) of the Lebanese Republic. Celle que vous croyez, starring Juliette Binoche, will be screened in the evening on SundayMarch 22.

The Printemps de la francophonie will include the second edition of the Bilingual Job Fair. On Wednesday, March 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., students and the public are invited to the OFFA office on the Burnaby campus to meet over 15 companies and organizations looking for talented, bilingual people.

This year, SFU Harbour Centre campus will have the pleasure of hosting the Celebrations of the francophonie in Vancouver, which will take place on Wednesday, March 18 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Exhibitors, panel discussion and 6@8 franco are included in this event organized by by the BCFC Official Languages Committee, in partnership with the BC Francophone Federation. OFFA’s mission is to coordinate, promote and support the development of programs and courses offered in French at Simon Fraser University. It also organizes scientific and cultural activities in the community in order to help promote a plural and inclusive Francophonie.
