Next steps: How do I prepare for the FCP?
- FCP Welcome (April 2020)
Once you have received an offer from SFU, you will be invited to attend a French Cohort Program Welcome Day event. You will be able to meet your future cohort, the administrative staff and teaching team, as well as current FCP students. You will receive important information about the program structure and its advantages, as well as be able to ask all your burning questions.
- French Language Appraisal Test (April-July 2020)
You will write the French Language placement test either at the Information Day in April or at another time prior to enrollment in July. This test is simply a tool for us to place you in the appropriate level for the French language courses.
- Consider Practicing Your French During Summer 2020
Another way to prepare for the FCP is to speak French as much as possible during the summer! Try watching videos in French, listening to French music, reading books in French, etc. Here are some resources to whet your appetite.
You can also participate in one of the following experiences:
The Ministry of Education's EXPLORE program
EXPLORE is a 5-week intensive immersion program offered in the spring or summer to participants at all levels of French proficiency.
It is the ideal program if you are about to finish high school or are currently studying at university.
EXPLORE will introduce you to another part of Canada while you practice your French with people at the same language level as you. Classroom instruction, workshops, sociocultural activities and excursions will not only improve your language skills but will also allow you to discover the culture of a new region, all while meeting other people from across the country!
Visit www.myexplore.ca/en/ for all the details.
Canadian Francophone Games—Victoria, July 2020
For the very first time, British Columbia will have the pleasure of hosting the Canadian Francophone Games (CFGames). This event, which brings together nearly 1,000 participants from across Canada, will take place in Victoria from July 14 to 18, 2020.
The Games organizing committee is seeking 700 volunteers to contribute to the success of the event. You can participate on one or more of the days and choose the type of volunteer work you would like to do. If you are from Greater Vancouver, you will receive free room and board on the dates you are working. In short, this is a golden opportunity to be part of a unique and memorable experience!
Important note: OFFA will soon be recruiting leaders who will be responsible for supervising groups of high school volunteers. Does this role interest you? Send us a message to firstname.lastname@example.org and mention why you would like to be part of the leadership team.
You can sign up to be a volunteer in the Get Involved section.
