SFU's Watson nets academic team honour

Simon Fraser University goalkeeper Brandon Watson was today named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-American Division 2 soccer team.
 Watson earned third-team honours after registering nine shutouts and finishing his career with a Great Northwest Athletic Conference record 31 career clean sheets. As a kinesiology major, Watson earned a 4.14 cumulative GPA for his first Academic All-American honour.
The senior from Victoria was sixth in Div. 2 this season in goals against average with a .589 mark. He also has the second-best career goals against average in conference matches in GNAC history.
 The honours and awards have been pouring in for Watson. Last week he was named to the 2016 NCAA Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association, Men’s Soccer All-West Region second team after being named GNAC All-Conference first team and to the GNAC All-Academic team. Watson was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team for District 8.
 Simon Fraser finished the year 14-1-3 and was ranked as high as No. 2 in the NCAA national polls. They entered the NCAA Division 2 championships ranked third overall and the No. 1 seed in the West Region, but fell 4-3 to Cal Poly Pomona in penalty kicks to end the season.
