Research Participants Recruitment

Cardiovascular Physiology Lab research - Participants Invited

Dr. Victoria Claydon's Cardiovascular Physiology Lab research team is evaluating the effect of water drinking on blood pressure control and fainting susceptibility, to help us understand whether having a drink of water can help prevent fainting spells. Men and women aged 19-50 years are invited to take part in this study. Your participation in this study will involve three tests, on three separate days, of your blood pressure control and susceptibility to fainting. On each day you will be asked to drink a glass of water. The temperature of the water will change on the different test days. Your participation will help improve the treatment and management of fainting spells. As a thank you for your participation, you will receive $75 in compensation. Please click here for the flyer. To participate, or to find out more information, please email Brooke Hockinat brookeh@sfu.ca.

Sensorimotor Neuroscience Lab - Participants Invited

The Sensorimotor Neuroscience Lab is looking for volunteers aged 19-35 (and/or SFU students) to take part in a study about the factors that determine where you look while walking.

As a participant in this study, you will be asked to walk and step on targets. To track your movement we will place position sensors on your shoes and various parts of your body. To measure muscle activity we will place muscle sensors on your legs. To determine where you look while walking and how that relates to your movement we will have you wear a head-mounted eye-tracking device. You will be asked to wear walking shoes (no sandals), shorts, and a t-shirt. You will be asked to come to the lab for one or two days. Your participation would involve ~2 hours of your time each day. You will receive $10/session for your participation. For more information about this study, or to volunteer for this study, please contact: Sharmaine Salarda at sasalard@sfu.ca

Cardiovascular Physiology Lab research - Participants Invited

Dr. Victoria Claydon's Cardiovascular Physiology Lab research team is looking to examine blood vessel stiffness and blood pressure control to better understand fainting risk in adults. Although we will be testing adults (age 19+), we are particularly interested in testing participants aged 30 and over. During testing, measurements of blood vessel stiffness will be taken at the neck, wrist, and inner thigh while you lie quietly. Blood pressure control will also be measured during a breathing test, and while you stand up. Please click here for the flyer. To participate, or to find out more information, please email Erin Williams at elwillia@sfu.ca.

Putting Lab Research - Participants Invited

Dr. Andy Hoffer's Neurokinesiology Lab research team is evaluating putting performance using a modified putter and grip that may help golfers whose putting is affected by tremor or yips. Participants can be experienced golfers with or without tremor, and also non-golfers with or without tremor. Please click here for the flyer to find more information. To participate, please email neurokin@sfu.ca.
