ROBBIE BURNS' DAY

January 25, 2000

Procession
Read-a-Thon

FREE HAGGIS ?? ... that'll have everyone running ... but which way ...!

All are welcome to join in the procession, Burns readings or a taste of HAGGIS being presented to the SFU community. If ye (you) can wear any tartan it would be fine indeed as you dinna (don't) have to have Scots in your blood to enjoy just a wee bit o fun on this fine occasion. If your office/mates/buddies would like a photo, bring a camera, we'd be pleased to pose with youse (you all) and the wee beastie for a donation to the Campus Community Bursary Endowment Fund.

Procession will start at aboot (about) 12:15 in front of the library, enter the quad, pass right through the study area, up and along the 3000/9000 hallway to the McKenzie cafe, for the first address to HAGGIS #1. We're off to the Highland Pub at aboot(about) 12:45 to leave HAGGIS # 2, recieving an address, as well as a few other words. Then off we go ta (to ) the Raven's Cafe in the West Mall Complex to join in at the Burns' readings and do the last address to HAGGIS #3.

Get involved! And have some fun ! No time? just stop the procession ... AYE (yeah).

You know who you are ... yes, you! Latent poets, shy soliloquists, timid town speakers, and reputable recitationists, you are hereby called to the fore to read the particular, popular and prophetic prose of one of Robbie Burns.

The plush venue is Raven's Cafeteria during the lunch hour of January 25 --- Robbie Burns Day itself. It is here that you will recite a short passage of Robbie Burns to a breathless gathering, only to be interrupted briefly by the annual Haggis procession across this fair campus.

Oh, but this is not just for the amusement of many, although that certainly will be the major attraction. Rather, your efforts will be rewarded by the monetary pledges your colleagues and associates will make to the Campus Community Bursary Endowment Fund, all at your beseeching.

So to all of you, please volunteer to be a Burns reader, and to collect pledges and monies for the endowment fund. You will feel great and have some fun doing it! Call Susan Walter (local 3750) to register, stating the time you will read, your chosen Burns selection, and to obtain a pledge form.

We would like to thank Carol Thorbes and Frank Campbell for providing the photos used on this site.
