This is caused by an error made during Assignment setup.

There are two different caution errors you may see in the Gradebook: either in an Assignment Column [1], or in the Total Column [2].

[1]. Assignment Column Error

The following error in an Assignment column is caused by an error in Assignment setup when points is set to "0".

1. Click on Assignments link in the course navigation sidebar and navigate to the Assignment causing the error.

2. In the Edit area of the assignment, find Points and ensure this is not set to "0".

[2]. Total Column Error

The following error in the Total column in the Gradebook is caused when using assignment groups. If there is a group that does not have any assignments added to it, “!” appears in the Total grade column in the grade book.

1. Click on Assignments link in the course navigation sidebar.

2. View Assignment Groups

In the list of Assignment Groups, there will be an empty assignment group. Ensure that there is at least one assignment in the group.
