A Personalized Approach: Financial Advising and Programming in an Assigned Advisor Model
Presenters: Camille Johnson and Joel Kobylka, The University of British Columbia
Joel Kobylka has worked in student affairs for 15 years and has spent ten of those years in financial aid at King’s University College, Brock University and currently as an Enrolment Services Professional at UBC. He holds a BA from King’s and is the currently the treasurer for the Association of Student Awards Personnel of BC (ASAP).
In this presentation we will discuss how financial advising is delivered as part of a generalist, assigned advising model, and examine the outcomes around student financial wellness and access to financial aid. Drawing on the experience of UBC's Student Support & Advising unit, we will explore the ways in which this model has facilitated a more personalized approach to promoting and developing financial literacy and financial aid programming for various student populations.
