Youth in Care Tuition Program
Presenter: Michelle Wywrot, Ministry of Children and Family Development
Michelle Wywrot is a Director with Strategic Priorities Division with the Ministry for Children and Family Development, where she is the lead on a variety of provincial initiatives supporting youth and young adults transitioning from government care. She graduated from Lakehead University with a Master’s Degree in Social Work. She has been a key lead in helping Post-Secondary Institutions across the province in developing Tuition Waiver Programs. This work includes partnership with sector partners, universities and colleges to develop best practices for on campus supports and increasing eligibility criteria to support tuition exemptions and financial supports for youth and former Young Adults from care. She has also been pivotal in the development of Agedout.com which delivers a single point of access for former youth in care to find resources in their communities that meet their needs, and where they can connect with online and in-person support.
Michelle lives on the beautiful North Vancouver Island and continues to be a strong voice and advocate for youth and young adults.
Michelle will be discussing the Youth in Care Tuition Assistance Program, which many of our members are implementing at their institutions.
